People call it "buzzing ear" but in medical term, it is called tinnitus. A person is suffering from tinnitus if he/she hears sounds or noises without any external cause or without the presence of external noise. A person suffering from this condition also hears other sounds aside from the buzzing sounds, including ringing, clicking, waterfall-like sounds, hissing, roaring, and others. The buzzing ear condition can be experienced by the sufferer every now and then regardless of the activity being done.

•    At the onset of hearing strange sounds, you have to keep in mind to pay your doctor a visit as you may need to undergo physical or medical examination. As you may already know, some serious diseases can manifest themselves through tinnitus. These serious diseases may include aneurysm, tumor, injury in the neck or head, or carotid artery narrowing. Still, stay relaxed because though these serious conditions are possible, they are very rare for patients diagnosed with tinnitus.

•    Most of the time, too much exposure to loud sounds and noises is the culprit to buzzing ear. The National Association for the Deaf and The American Tinnitus Association suggest the use of ear protection devices or ear plugs to protect the ear from incurring further damage. It is also important to keep the music they are listening in soft volume.

•    Another possible reason why people suffer from tinnitus is the intake or consumption of drugs, pills, and medicines. Because of this, it is a must that you tell your doctor whatever medications you are taking. Simple medicines or pills can actually have side effects. Aspirin for instance, when taken in large amount can cause a person to hear strange sounds.

•    Two major causes of buzzing ear are consumption of alcohol and stress. Thus, it's easy to understand why you have to stop consuming any alcohol beverages. Keeping oneself stress-free or calm can be a big challenge especially if you turn to alcohol to relax and calm down. However, your suffering won't stop if you continue this practice.

•    You can also try using CDs of soothing and relaxing sounds. These CD maskers can greatly help in making the tinnitus sufferer divert his or her attention from the noise and sounds caused by tinnitus.

•    Last but not the least; remember not to feel bad about your situation. Buzzing ear is annoying but this is not enough reason for you to stress yourself out. There are many others with similar condition so don't despair. Just make sure that when finding ways to end this suffering, trust only those sources with good reputation.
